One of the essential parts that come with a wedding but is not taken care of by most wedding planners is the honeymoon. It’s the first trip the two of you will be taking as a married couple, and it has to be special, no matter what. Happily for most couples, there is something in the travel industry for honeymooners with sky high budgets and more modest ones. If you know just what you want, you can do some searching on the Internet and find a plan that suits you to the T.

You might want a romantic week away in Paris, or the sea and sand at Hawaii. Maybe you always wanted to go to Wales, or never had the chance to go to Disneyland as a kid. This is the time to do what you always really wanted but never had the chance to. So jot down a list of such places, and take time out with your partner to pinpoint which place it is you are going to visit on your honeymoon.

You can go west and drive through the wine country. If you can manage it, throw in a few Texas ranches into the travel plan. Don’t stay at expensive hotels, but find quaint little cottages set on hills, looking down on vineyards, that offer bed and breakfast for honeymooners.

If you are a beach person, try going to Spain, Greece, Jamaica or Thailand. You can spend your days lounging on the sand, tanning yourself, or swimming in the blue green waters. Watching sunsets by the sea is something incredibly romantic, and you can follow this up with a walk on the shore, holding hands under the stars.

Some of the top urban honeymoon destinations are located in the US itself. You can go to Las Vegas, San Francisco, New York or Miami for an action packed honeymoon. Sydney, London and Vienna are also good options if you can move farther east. You can visit museums and churches, explore without definite plans and do anything that catches your fancy, spend the evenings at small restaurants or at the theater or concerts, sampling the local cuisine, dance the nights away at clubs or seek out a pub where you can afford to buy everyone a drink. You can go to a spa to pamper yourself one day, and arrange a car you drive out to the rural locales on a day set aside for this.

If you are both into some adventure and won’t mind roughing it out, try a camping holiday at Cape Cod, the Grand Canyon or in Kenya or South Africa. If it is near a forest, there should be safaris into the wilderness with wild animal viewing spots. You can go river rafting or kayaking. Rock climbing, skiing and angling are also popular choices. But do not consider a rough living honeymoon if your spouse is not fond of adventure sports or living on the edge ion general. Remember it is a time both of you want to treasure the rest of your lives, and choose something you both love.

Everyone is busy in the world of today. You might be a working professional or a homemaker or a freelancer or a part time worker, but every job is demanding. Most Americans would love to go away on a holiday, for a few days if they cannot rake out a longer span of time from the grueling schedules at work, but it seems to be the next thing to impossible. The next best thing you can do is plan a weekend getaway. Often, these are hectic, but fulfilling and refreshing, so you go back to work a new person.

If you want to pack in a short holiday for the weekend, play your cards smartly. The best bet is to watch out for a long weekend, that is, when you have the Friday or the Monday off. You can also take leave on one of these days to extend the trip to a total of four days. But chances of getting reduced rates on plane tickets are higher in the middle of the week. If you want to save money, you should fly on a Thursday rather than on a Friday, and plan to be back by Sunday night. Of course, you don’t have to bother about this if you are staying within your state and your destination is a few hours’ drive away.

If there is a long weekend on thanksgiving, the fourth of July or Halloween, accommodation and transportation rates will hit their peak. Try traveling on the weekend directly after a long holiday weekend. This way, you can seal the best deals.

The American tendency is to throw in as many activities as are humanly possible in a three day long weekend. When that happens, you move around too much and end up exhausting yourself. You get back from your much awaited holiday more tired and haggard than you were before it even started. You have to figure out your goal. The whole point of the holiday is to unwind and relax, isn’t it? If doing a lot of running around and adventure sports are your idea of unwinding, go for it, but I suppose most people would rather sleep in, take a walk through an unknown forest trail, watch the rain, have a picnic with sandwiches and scones in a leafy park, and take in the quietness and the scent of the earth.

You could also spend time alone, if that was what you needed at home. Go shopping for yourself if it is a city you have come to, and pick up antiques and home accessories at rock bottom prices from flea markets. Swim out to the open sea if you are at a beach. Go hunting for wildflowers and orchids if you have come to the hills. Most importantly, just follow your heart. Weekend trips are a lovely way for a couple to bond all over again, so if you have someone to take charge of the kids, go away without them.
